CES, Las Vegas, NV & Copiague, NY - January 6, 2005 - Intellon Corporation, the world leader in powerline communications and TII Network Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ:TIII), a leading provider of telecommunications network protection and management products, announced today that they have teamed-up to introduce the first HomePlug embedded surge protector.
The TII HNP6E incorporates TII's proprietary AC protection, specifically designed for today's HomePlug networks, with Intellon's HomePlug 1.0 INT5200 powerline communications integrated circuit. Intellon's technology enables TII's customers to network voice, data and audio devices through the integrated powerline port of the surge protector. TII is taking the lead to improve the consumer experience by using Intellon's HomePlug technology to provide a robust network technology in their multiple outlet surge product. Consumers who desire the benefit of surge protection can chose TII's HNP6E to protect their CE investments and network them over the powerline with just one product.
Timothy J. Roach, President and CEO of TII Network Technologies, said: “TII has over 30 years of leadership in providing service providers with state-of-the-art lightning and surge protection solutions. Our proprietary AC protection designs offers superior protection for sensitive CE equipment and networks without interfering with data transmission over AC powerlines – making the TII HNP6E ideally suited for today's HomePlug networks.”
Roach added, “Intellon's leadership in powerline technology and their high level of support have made them the ideal partner in helping us develop our HomePlug-embedded surge protectors for our Telco, CATV and Power Utility service provider customer base.”
“TII is one of the leaders in surge protection and we value their contributions to the HomePlug networking product line” said Charlie Harris, CEO of Intellon Corporation. “As more consumers are demanding simple and convenient whole-house distribution of digital entertainment, TII is taking the initiative to meet the protection needs for high dollar CE equipment and provide a networking technology in one complete package.
Harris added, “Intellon's HomePlug technology allows the consumer to use home powerlines to network data, video and audio without the need for new wires or concern about coverage issues. As network technologies converge with expensive CE equipment, TII is prepared to provide the best overall solution for the consumer.”
“Intellon is continuing to work with service providers, consumer electronics companies, and hardware manufacturers to embed Intellon's HomePlug ICs in numerous products, including ADSL modems, cable modems, wireless extension bridges, home security systems, audio players and television displays. Like the new TII embedded surge protector, these products can communicate instantly over existing home electrical wiring when plugged into any convenient outlet.”
