Automated Meter Reading (a.k.a. Automatic Meter Reading, AMR) is a technology for automatically collecting data from utility meters (gas, electric, water) to a central billing server. Deploying an AMR system cuts overhead costs by removing the need to employ meter reading technicians. Additionally more accurate and frequent monitoring of customer energy usage can aid in capacity planning, fault/leak detection, and time-of-use billing.
