HomePlug® Powerline Alliance Exceeds 50-Member Mark Within Six Months of its Founding

Companies Join Forces to Offer Consumers Simple Way to Transform Home Electrical Wiring into High-Speed Networks

2 Oct 2000

SAN RAMON, Calif., October 2, 2000 - The HomePlug® Powerline Alliance, an association of industry leaders working together to offer consumers a simple way to transform home electrical wiring into high-speed home networks, today announced that its membership has exceeded the 50-member mark. The increasing support of HomePlug's initiatives further demonstrates the industry's commitment to powerline home networking standards.

Founded in March 2000, HomePlug has rapidly grown from 13 original founding companies to more than 50 member companies spanning various technology business sectors including hardware, software, semiconductors, consumer electronics, utility and retail.

“HomePlug has quickly developed accord across an entire industry and attracted an influential roster of companies to our membership base,” said Alberto Mantovani, President of HomePlug. “The home networking market is very valid - the growth in our membership is further evidence of this fact. The cohesion and commitment of our member companies is enabling HomePlug to move forward quickly to lay the foundation for the networked home of the future.”

In June 2000, HomePlug selected its baseline technology and is scheduled to conduct extensive field trials on the technology in more than 500 homes worldwide. Following the completion of the field trials, the Alliance will publish the HomePlug 1.0 specification, which will enable member companies to bring HomePlug compliant products to market in 2001.
